Friends of Wraxall School Association (FWSA)

Our Aims

The Friends of Wraxall School Association (FWSA) is a registered charity (1134471) that is the parent-teacher association for the school. We raise money and organise activities to support the educational outcomes and wellbeing of students, their carers and the wider community at Wraxall C of E Primary School in North Somerset.

The FWSA's mission is to assist the school in the funding of essential items and activities required by both pupils and teachers, to enrich the experience of every child at Wraxall school and for them all to benefit from the 'little extras' which cannot be covered by the school budget.

This is achieved by running a range of fundraising events throughout the year while bringing a social side to the school by ensuring events cater for children and parents alike.

Our Fundraising

There are a number of hugely popular events that feature regularly in the fundraising calendar. These include Christmas and Summer Fayres (our biggest events), Summer BBQ (designed to welcome Reception parents to the school), Quiz Night, Movie 'Nights' for kids, cake sales, and textile recycling collections.

In addition to this, we organise special one-off events to raise extra funds for specific projects - these have included a Mums' skydive, Dads' abseil down Avon Gorge, Pandemonium Race (a team mud-running event) and an individual 41-mile run.

Why it matters

Being a Church of England Voluntary Aided School means that the FWSA plays a vital role in supporting the school in applying for substantial additional funding from the Diocese for essential maintenance of and improvements to the school building. For any funding application to the Diocese, the school must supply 10% of any sum required, and the money must not come from the school budget, but can come from the FWSA.

Your Support

When your child starts school, you automatically become a member of the FWSA and you are encouraged to get involved in whatever way you would like. You will automatically receive the semi-regular FWSA email newsletter, which includes fundraising updates and upcoming dates.

We meet every couple of months at the Battleaxes Pub, usually at 8pm. Forthcoming meeting dates are shared in the regular FWSA email newsletter. Please feel free to come along, express any views you might have and get involved. It's a great, informal opportunity to share a drink with fellow parents.

Should you have any suggestions, comments, want to get a bit more involved or just want to find out more information, please ask any of the committee members, leave a message at the office, drop us a line at or follow us on Twitter.

A big thank you to all parents, carers and teachers for their continued support in making Wraxall such an amazing school for all our children.

Our Past Projects

Throughout the year we fund, or contribute towards, a number of regular activities including pantomime trips, swimming lessons, sports equipment, books, cooking essentials, Year 6 leavers' service and photo albums, Christmas parties and more.

2012 saw the completion of our biggest single fundraising project by far - the levelling and creation of an all-weather sports field. A massive £23,000 was raised by the FWSA over a period of 2 years, half of which was raised with the Mums' skydiving event.

The following year (2013) the first contribution of £2,000 was made towards the roll out of iPad technology to the teaching staff and the supporting network.

In 2014/15, a significant contribution of £3,000 from the FWSA made possible the completion of the ICT Suite building renovation, turning it into a multi-functional library space for computer access, reading and working in a stimulating environment and small group support work.  The same year, a further £2,000 contribution was made for additional iPads to be shared as a pooled resource throughout the school.
