Music

Picture a school permeated by music. Picture a school where children develop a love of music. We sing in assemblies, in lessons (and not just music lessons!) and as we enjoy our day. We learn to sing together about ideas and emotions, about issues that concern us, about our school’s values and about the welcoming and inclusive ethos that surrounds each one of us. Picture a school where children learn about the history and development of music, where we start to learn the fundamentals of musical notation and about the language used to describe music, from pitch to dynamics, timbre to texture. We create, compose and improvise, inspired by a wide range of high-quality musical resources from experts at Charanga Musical School organisation, through North Somerset Music Service.

Picture a school where all children learn to not only use our voices musically but also to play tuned and untuned instruments, both together and alone. Children learn to play instruments in class, have opportunities to experience more unusual instruments in visiting workshops and have access to specialist peripatetic music teachers for those who wish to learn particular instruments in more depth. We run an open school choir and orchestra, encouraging children to enjoy making music together in cross year group settings.

Children in our school sing and play music together – in our own school and church, in joint performances with other schools in our area, in whole school performances at Christmas and by our oldest class as for the Year 6 leavers.

Picture a school where we love and celebrate music!
