Mental Health

Health, fitness and wellbeing are important parts of life at Wraxall. We pride ourselves on our outdoor provision. We have an all weather pitch, a full set of fitness equipment, a climbing wall, playground markings and ball hoops that promote social skills. We also have an outdoor classroom which is used for a range of outdoor learning opportunities. We are now developing a conservation area with willow tunnels, a bug hotel and a sensory garden.

The ‘Daily Mile’ is a key part of the day. Every child from Year 1 to Year 6 takes part in the ‘Daily Mile’. This is a really popular activity and sees children aiming to have run the equivalent of the London Marathon by the end of the year! The goal is set.

We hold Mindfulness Mondays sessions every Monday in ‘The Hive’. These are open sessions which children can drop in to and take part in yoga, colouring, reflections and quiet time. These are led by a core group of volunteers and are a popular part of the Wraxall week.

We have now begun the annual tradition of holding a ‘Health and Wellbeing Week’. This was a highlight in the school calendar last year. There are a whole host of different activities that take place over the week. These have or may include lacrosse, Tag rugby,  tennis, healthy food workshops, wellbeing workshops, yoga, dance, music, mindfulness artwork and Sports Day!

We are passionate about developing good Mental Health in our children. We have a trained Mental Health First Aider (Mrs Hayward) and are in the process of adding a Mental Health Champion to our staffing. We use our values to promote actions that support good mental health and we link these to Mental health strategies. Every week we include strategies to support wellbeing in our school newsletter. We also have a range of useful links (see below). We work closely with other agencies as needed to support our children enabling them to be empowered, confident and aware individuals.

E-Safety is a big part of our wellbeing provision. We are members of ‘National Online Safety’ and our e-safety lead has completed E-Safety training.  We feature weekly E-Safety guidance and advice in our newsletter and this is often linked to issues that have been raised by the school community that they are seeking advice with. We have an E-Safety committee made up of children, the E-Safety Lead, the Headteacher and the Safeguarding governor.

Meeting every term they have planned pupil surveys, led Safer Internet Day Services and been involved in determining some of the content for a parent information meeting.
