Pine Class
Year 3/4 Class Page
In our classroom, we strive for a calm but enthusiastic learning environment. We aim for children to be confident and independent learners who always work as hard as they can in all that they do. We have a growth mindset and welcome mistakes in the understanding that when we learn from them, they make us better!
Term 1
This term, we learnt a lot and had so much fun as well!
History - The Stone Age
The children have been learning about Prehistoric Britain. They have developed a wealth of knowledge about the changes in Britain across the three eras of The Stone Age - Paeleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic. Some parents have reported that their children absolutely loved the content of this history unit, and they really enjoyed talking about it at home.
To kick off the topic, we had a 'handline box' from Weston Museum. This gave the children the chance to handle and see artefacts (axes, ivory spearheads, and much more) and have a go at activities related to The Stone Age.
To end the unit with a 'wow', we will be going on a class trip to Cheddar Gorge next term which will be amazing! The children will get to explore some caves and will meet 'Cheddar Man'!
Science
The children have been learning about animals, including humans, in science. The children enjoyed learning about their teeth and why it's important to look after them. They learnt this importance through an 'eggsperiment'!
They also explored the digestive system by writing a diary entry in role of a piece of food that had been eaten. They wrote about their journey from plate... to toilet!
Term 2
This term was a fantastic one!
Year 3s enjoyed a brilliant trip to Watercress Farm with the year 2s where everyone got stuck in! Some children even enjoyed a little splash in the river!
Year 4 visited St. Peter's Church in Portishead with Year 5 to take part in the Star Trail. It was a beautiful trip and a very special and immersive way for the children to explore and experience the Christmas Story from the point of view of the Wise Men and the journey they would have taken.
As a full Year 3 and 4 class, we went to Cheddar Caves to finish our Stone Age history topic in style! The children really enjoyed this trip, which really helped to enrich and embed their learning about the Stone Age.
Thank you again to all parent volunteers who came with us on those trips - without you, it wouldn't be possible!
Geography - Rivers
Since the start of this school year, the children have been doing lots and lots about rivers through their English work so they started this geography unit in a good place!
The children have learnt about specific rivers around the world and why they're important. They have also learnt about how rivers shape the land, creating meanders, deltas, oxbow lakes, rapids, waterfalls and more!
When the year 3s were on their trip with year 2, the year 4s created amazing artwork inspired by water and rivers. It is displayed at the back of the classroom and it looks so good! Feel free to pop your head in to have a look at what your child made!
Science
'Light' has been our science topic this term. The children have been enthusiastic and very curious learners as they grew to understand the content through experiments and hands on activities.
The children learnt about what darkness is, how we are able to see, what sources of light there are and how shadows are formed.
As it neared Christmas, the children worked in groups to create their own Christmas shadow puppet shows in our very own classroom theatre! Each and every child shone as they demonstrated what they had learnt about light throughout the term whilst having a fun time!
